My name is Claire and I am one of the full-time tutors teaching various courses in Ds Education Centre. I completed my B.A at Nanjing Normal University, China in 1984. After I immigrated to Canada in 2004, I got my TESOL Certificate from Vancouver Community College, British Columbia in Feb. 2007. I am always proud of my career as an English teacher both in China and in Canada. During the twenty years' teaching in China, I was honoured as one of the leading teachers in English subject in Wuxi, China in 2001. I made so many efforts to make myself a successful ESL teacher to both teenagers and adults. From 1994 to 2004, I compiled several books on English learning-- “A Guide Book on English Writing for High School Students",“the High Efficiency in Raising the Students’ Skill in Learning”---English for Senior Grade Two, Concise English Grammar for Examinations, and A Concise English-Chinese and Chinese-English Dictionary for the High School students, etc. After I started to work in DECC in 2006, I've always felt so happy to tutor adults in listening and speaking courses and even from the very basic course- Phonics. I have compiled text-books of Listening and Speaking Level I, Basic English and Phonics, etc for Ds Education Centre. My favourite activities include hiking, swimming and internet. Also I am computer "expert" in using many kinds of software. However, meeting and teaching more students who are eager to learn English is my favourite thing to do. TOEFL / IELTS / Listening and Speaking Instructor TOEFL ETS certificate teacher Profile: Hello, my name is Cheryl Hudson. I am a self-taught business owner, teacher, parent, and volunteer. At present I teach English, “Speaking and Listening”, five days a week, here at the D S Education Center. Additionally at D S Education I host an English Club where students can practice their new language skills, all while having fun meeting new English speaking friends. I was born, raised, and educated in Manitoba, and later migrated west to Alberta and Vancouver, finally settling in Richmond for the past 30 years. Here my husband and I raised 4 happy, healthy children, 2 of which still reside at home with us and our 2 dogs and 2 cats. In 1986 we started our own successful car business, which we still own and operate, with many repeat clientele. Our Chief-of-Staff is one of our sons. Last year, I started my own business working part time with local seniors, which I continue to do when I’m not teaching. My volunteer work includes being a longtime member of the Pastors Counsel, a Sunday School Teacher and Seniors Support. I think D S Education is a great place to work and learn. We are very fortunate to have a school with such a positive environment for all, staff and students alike.
Amy Jiang TOEFL / IELTS Instructor Profile： Hello. My name is Amy Jiang. I was born and grew up in Shandong Province mainland China. I studied for seven years in School of Foreign Languages, Shandong University, where I completed my B.A. and M.A. degrees in English Language and Literature. With an interest in English Language and English teaching, I worked as an associate professor in School of Foreign Languages, Shandong University from 1993 to 2006. The courses I taught included Reading, Writing, Grammar, the History of English Literature and Learning English through Film Appreciation. Meanwhile, I participated in training programs to prepare students for TOEFL (pen-based test). I worked under the Canada General Study program in Shandong University from 2000 to 2006. I taught the Reading part of internet-based TOEFL. More than 90 percent of the students I taught were admitted into Canadian universities. I received training from the National Test Center for Overseas Test in Beijing in May, 2006 and then worked as center supervisor for iBT in the Test Center at Shandong University. I have been working as a TOEFL/IELTS instructor since I came to Vancouver in 2007. I love working with DS Education Center and enjoy the classes with students here. Listening and Speaking / Vocabulary LPI /Grammar Instructor Profile Hi, my name is Gabrielle Lightfoot and I’m happy to be part of the D S Education Centre. It is a privilege to work with wonderful staff and to teach bright students, who are eager to learn. I have been an Educator in BC, for more than 20 years. My experience includes; working with adults and children with a variety of challenges, Including: developmental disabilities, learning, language and communication challenges. My education includes, critical incident stress debriefing and a number of communication courses through the Justice Institute of B C, Kwantlen College, Douglas College and the Orca Institute. I hold a certificate in Business Office Management and Counseling. I am presently serving a second term as a board member, with the Richmond Centre for Disabilities, a not for profit organization, providing information and promoting opportunities for persons with disabilities. Since 2000, I have volunteered at the RCD, teaching communication skills, life skills and social skills to children and adults of diverse cultures and abilities. I also assist with interviewing and assessing applicants, for the RCD Youth Leadership Project. In 1996 I started Earth Angel Creations; an art and design based company. I often use original stories, artwork and poetry during workshops or presentations. I have learned that as unique individuals we learn in different ways. I like to incorporate a variety of tools and concepts to promote and increase individual learning.
Anping Zhu Basic English / Listening and Speaking Vocabulary Instructor Profile as a Senior English teacher in Beijing Jingshan School, Anping Zhu has been teaching for more than 30 years. Other than graduating from Beijing TV and Broadcast University and Beijing Teachers' Training University, her finished Adult education of Beijing Normal Education University and Education and Psychology of Boston University in America. he has been interested in teaching Mandarin and English bilingually to different students ever since then. In order to improve their language level, he's thoroughly enjoyed working on the study of various methodologies and accumulated much experience of teaching. He firmly believes that learning interest could build up abilities for more and further language study which needs to adapt to its use and practice. She also has a first class honors degree in English and Chinese Literary Studies.
